The show is a marriage of classic fairy tale - with its psychological allegory - and TV police adventure. Add strong doses of "Phantom of the Opera'' and you have a combination of the absurd and the insightfully different.
The production is ingenious, contrasting sharp, realistic shots of the city above with soft, otherworldly depictions of the ''forgotten place'' below. And the details are worked out nicely.
The first episode had some inept action sequences and could have used more fanciful detail. But there are nice lyrical touches, and the show may have hit on something.
