But what makes this episode so great is how it addresses nagging questions I had about the emotional dynamics of the characters with a heartbreaking sincerity.
The scene of Alison stopping in the mirror on her way out of the cabin to look intently at herself, trying to determine what other people see when they look at her, is brilliant.
I guess, based on this episode, we could call The Affair a romance. But like, the grossest romance possible. A romance between this weird orbit of people who have no business together.
