The extramarital relationship between a waitress Alison and Noah, the father of four who is a novelist and a school teacher and depends on his father in law financially.
On The Affair Season 1 Episode 9 a lot of dirty laundry aired. We even know a bit more about what has happened to the parties involved that landed them on the radar of Det. Jeffries.
Bolstered by Ruth Wilson's absolutely stellar performance, the scene in Dr. Henry's office (which, in my opinion, should seal the deal on a Golden Globe win) is one of the most heartbreaking moments in TV in recent years.
I also can't get past the idea that Noah, however lost but ultimately decent, would choose the moment of a severe crisis with his daughter (one transpiring during Christmas, no less) to tell Helen that it is time for him to move on.
I'm hoping, though, The Affair is as brave as Noah may have pretended to be when "telling" his wife, and give us some indisputable truths. Right now, I'm almost too far out into the ocean to be reeled back.
