Its been over a years since Dean has been away from his brother, but he is returned with a mysterious comrade-in-arms whose reason for escape is more than Dean bargained for.
The episode felt somewhat low key for a premiere, but it had plenty of elements that made me think that season eight and new showrunner Jeremy Carver will be the resurgence this series needs.
While there's no doubt that Supernatural can still deliver, the premiere felt too chaotic to get a real sense about what the future holds, or whether the promise of returning to its roots will be met. We'll just have to continue to wait and see.
Season 8 of Supernatural feels unevenly paced with almost too much going on. I understand that this show went through a major turn in direction, but it should still feel like a continuation of season 7.
