Mike Flaherty, the Deputy Mayor of New York City, and his team of half-wits must constantly save the Mayor from embarrassment and the media. Mike is later succeeded by Charlie Crawford.
Spin City is smart stuff. The one-liners zing, Mr. Fox and company are disarming and the 22 minutes flow by effortlessly. The only snag is that concept of spin. Are those who toy with the truth all that funny?
Sophisticated, snap-crackle clever and deeply cynical -- in fact, it is one of the most cynical television series I have ever seen. If that's your definition of smart, then you will adore this series..
The supporting players are quirky fun, but Fox commands the spotlight with his flair for physical comedy and unfailing ability to mine each line for optimum laughs.
Spin benefited not just from the charm of Fox but also was blessed with one of the better sitcom ensembles of the nineties. Plots are broad and the comedy is physical, but the show was well written and amazingly acted.
Although hardly a growth role for Fox... it's one that he wears so comfortably that the fusion of actor and character is seamless and a treat to watch.
