A British nurse travels through time into a mysterious world and the only means of survival is to marry a strapping Scots warrior with a complicated past and a disarming sense of humor.
"The Gathering" started out as what I thought would be my least favorite episode of Outlander so far yet ended up becoming the pivot point of the show for me.
Tonight's Outlander showed us that Claire is ready to leave, and that was a necessary move. The episode also showcased strong writing and performances that make you feel more invested in Claire's story and emotional.
This episode really shows one of the strengths of the series in that it subtly and effectively, layers this relationship [Claire and Dougal] via unpredictable circumstances that arise throughout.
The use of mid-20th-century music in a few of the scenes in "The Gathering" [was] a subtle yet clever way to remind viewers of Claire's true home without having to rely too heavily on those flashbacks. Point pleasantly taken.
In this week's episode, titled 'The Gathering,' the men take center stage proving that they have the chops to keep this sprawling story from collapsing under the pressure of its own grandiose weight.
Claire was brought along for when the men inevitably got seriously injured and it doesn't take long before the worst happens... I've got nothing funny to say about this scene. This was legitimately hard to watch.
I was disappointed by how easily Claire backed down from her plan... I wish the writers played it out so that the scene fell more in line with her character.
