Outlander - Season 1, Episode 15: Wentworth Prison
Trailer
A British nurse travels through time into a mysterious world and the only means of survival is to marry a strapping Scots warrior with a complicated past and a disarming sense of humor.
"Wentworth Prison" was an excruciating episode that is leading up to what looks to be a difficult finale. Though I trust in Murtagh's cattle plans to save Jamie, what may happen to him before that may be extremely hard to bear.
The episode is a marvel in just how graphic television can get and still have the audience stay engaged with the material, a testament to the strength of the bond between viewer and character.
I have to commend series creator Ronald D. Moore, director Anna Foerster and "Wentworth Prison" writer Ira Steven Behr for the direct, yet delicate way they handled the upsetting material.
In what is the most intense episode of the season, Claire must save Jamie from hanging at Wentworth Prison. While Claire is trying to save Jamie from certain death, things get worse with the arrival of Captain Black Jack Randall on the scene.
We spent the whole season getting to know these characters to eventually get to this moment that even Black Jack says will be one we won't ever forget.
At the end of last week's episode, so many characters told Claire she's crazy to try and break Jamie out of Wentworth Prison. But nothing could have quite prepared her-or us-for the agony that comes in "Wentworth Prison."
That was an incredibly disturbing hour of television. While Outlander Season 1 Episode 15 was definitely well done in terms of quality, it's not easy to praise what was almost a drawn out psychological and emotional rape.
It's the penultimate episode of season one, and as Outlander novel fans already know, this is the one where things get really nasty for our time-spanning lovers Jamie and Claire.
