A British nurse travels through time into a mysterious world and the only means of survival is to marry a strapping Scots warrior with a complicated past and a disarming sense of humor.
There's a lot of set-up in the beginning chapters of Outlander, so this addition to the plot was a good tool to give this episode a beginning, middle and end.
Look, I don't know how to break this to you, but Jamie and Claire don't have sex in this episode. I have concluded that their coupling is a figment of someone's imagination, the cruelest, sexiest figment. Je suis désolée.
The amount of time spent with characters like Colum, Jamie, and even Angus means they already feel like friends - it serves to make you more invested in the story and what Claire will do next.
Despite several juicy plot points-exorcism! clandestine makeouts! rescue missions!-Outlander's third episode was the first to only negligibly drive the overall narrative forward.
Overall, I liked the episode and while we don't take huge steps forward in the overall plot, seeds of what's to come are evident (and some not so evident).
Outlander may not have the same kind of ferocious pacing as Game of Thrones, or even History's Vikings; however, there is still lots to uncover each week.
