Probably the most recurring trope in Arrested Development is struggling to meet the expectations of parents. "Top Banana" has Michael trying to show his father that he could run the business he wasn't given the opportunity to run.
It's part of what makes Arrested Development such an easy show to watch over and over again; there will always be something that went by too quickly for you to notice the first time, leaving plenty to discover on repeat viewings.
