Returning to the excitement where the last season stops that follows the deep will and loyalty to Gotham, Bruce Wayne, an aged scholar, who does his best and struggles against saving the city from the evils and criminals that threatens its future, begins to train a young courageous scholar to revive Batman and defends the city from the evil gang that seeks to destroy it. In this new season, Batman struggles against tracking down a criminal.
I guess by the third season the show runners were ready to give Terry a chance to become a Batman of his own instead of simply standing in Bruce Wayne's shadow.
Despite its influences, Batman Beyond broke with most Batman trends by offering a completely unique story and gave writers a new character to work with.
