The characters get more and more likable, and the balance between comedy and drama is perfectly tuned in that we laugh but also get to know these people.
While many shows take at least a few episodes to hit their full stride, Insecure firmly establishes its themes and tone within the first 3 minutes of its pilot.
It doesn't take long to be drawn into the lives of Issa and Molly and their world. The writing is witty, original and authentic, the characters are engaging and you really want to see them find happiness. It all makes for a great comedy.
In the six episodes previewed, the show does better as commentary than as a relationship comedy, where it isn't quite as original. But there is enough in both columns to keep watching.
