The film tells the story of two sets of identical twins who did not match at birth and coexist with the situation when one ended in a rich urban family and the other in a poor rural family. It seems that both of them will meet together sometime in the 1980s, when incompatible twin groups are about to face the biggest new trade deal.
an oddity of incessant proportions, a comedy with few laughs but many unwarranted chuckles, which lives and dies on the notion its silly premise will at least be vague enough to provide its actors with great opportunities to improvise.
Double the Tomlin & Midler cannot save silly doppelganger gimmickry.

Fred Ward plays dumb hicks a lot, but never with quite this much comedic energy.

There could not have been four more perfect roles for the likes of Midler and Tomlin; they play these flip-side characterizations with perfect wit and trascend every cliche.
