One of the things This Is Us does so well is present a narrative about each of the characters, then return to it with fresh angles, time periods, and perspectives-giving the audience the opportunity to look at them in a new way.
It establishes a central theme-in this case, the legal and judicial system and all the complications therein-and hopes character development will follow. Unfortunately, it's a gamble that doesn't quite pay off.
It was a pretty rough episode for Kevin, and I'm really hoping things turn around for him soon. It's heartbreaking to watch him struggle, and I was really rooting for him and Sophie.
"The Most Disappointed Man" ... felt more like an episode of Law & Order, flashing back to William's drug bust and Randall's adoption and giving us a peek inside Deja's mother's life in jail. The hour also had its fair share of TIU hallmarks.
