This is not the pulse-pounding, heart-wrenching season premiere that was marketed, but it is something a little more assured and subtle: a chance to get back into the This Is Us rhythm, check in on the characters, and grapple with some of the bigger ideas
I'm happy to report that This Is Us feels very much like the same show it was before. If there's a sophomore slump in this show's future, "A Father's Advice" shows no signs of it yet.
There is so much in the past to mine, I sincerely hope people aren't just sitting around with bated breath waiting for Kevin to break his leg and signal that the end is nigh. Let Jack live, so to speak. Let the show live.
Like most big occasions, drama ensues. But in the spirit of this show, there are plenty revelations and reflections revealing just how "perfectly imperfect" each character truly is.
