The series open up with two FBI agents, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully working on the X-Files. The duo will have to work hand in hand to investigating paranormal cases that opens them up to conspiracies within the government.
While much of the pleasure of the show comes from watching the chemistry between the two leads develop over the seasons, it's interesting to see how much of it is already in place here.
This dark sci-fi drama can be very scary at times, sometimes depicting monsters, deformed humans, disturbing scenarios, and violent acts. The show's mythology centers on government conspiracy, cover-ups, and the possibility of alien abductions.
Though the show works with a certain unintended camp kick, at the moment "X" doesn't mark the spot where viewers can find involving drama by way of Stephen King-esque actions.
The X-Files succeeds as addictive B-film entertainment because it treats its cheesy material - ''inspired by actual documented events'' - with absolute seriousness.
