A dangerous virus destroys almost all humans in the Scandinavian countries. Danish brothers emerged from the safety of their hideout to find all the remains of civilization. They soon joined a group of young survivors and held a risky venture together through abandoned Scandinavian countries in search of any sign of life.
The Rain tries hard and you can sense that there's so much potential there but it feels a bit of a misfire unfortunately for what could be a really compelling watch.
But what The Rain lacks in originality it makes up for by remixing elements of YA fiction, postapocalypse drama, and cli-fi into a gripping kind of mashup.
The overall story, which sometimes feels like a cross between Contagion and The Walking Dead, isn't particularly original... But this doesn't stop The Rain from being entertaining.
From what we've seen so far, The Rain is so much more than 'The Walking Dead with teens' - it's a satisfyingly full-blooded and handsomely filmic series that justifies the hype.
The Rain never gets to the point where you're pulling for the water droplets, but this is one barren wasteland that makes it difficult to care about anything other than surviving it.
