Upon revealing the hidden truth, two young teenager girls, who have been switched at birth, as one of them has taken by a rich family and the other has taken by a poor single mother, everything changes, as the families have to unite for the girls. In this new season, the girls have to return home after receiving a terrible call.
It is a series that has shown, consistently and without much fanfare, how to illuminate deaf culture - and, by extension, any other that faces impairments - without being condescending, sensationalizing or preachy.
The show has tackled a number of social issues, including sexual consent, over its nearly six-year run. But Switched, now in its final season, has been just as compelling in exploring the daily lives of its main characters.
