The 17th series of the misadventures of Stan, Kyle, Eric and Kenny in the fictional town continues. This season includes 'World War Zimmerman' a parody of 'World War Z' and 'The Hobbit' which sees Wendy describe Kim Kardashian as a hobbit, leading her to speak out about the unrealistic portrayal of women.
While South Park normally excels at lampooning major hot-button issues like this, the season premiere just didn't quite follow through comedically, despite raising some good points.
Not every show has to be some sort of searing public commentary; dumb jokes are just fine, thanks. But even with that expectation and the extended time off, it feels like the rust shows.
Season 17 isn't quite a perfect season (if there is such a thing), but the high quality moments and the near dearth of let-downs in these ten episodes prove that the creators of South Park are still in their prime (or, at least, on one of their upswings)
