when it hits its high marks it does raise belly laughs, providing that you allow yourself to be sucked in to this over-the-top world of freaks and larger-than-life characters.

The wit in Reno 911! is not in the Mad magazine plots but in the sustained deadpan mockery of Fox's long-running Cops and other shows that follow police officers as they respond to calls from trailer parks, apartment buildings and strip malls.
So aggressive is RENO 911!'s low-budget affect that Cops looks positively polished by comparison... Here, jokes fall into dead space or turn bizarre, and characters are mostly conventional types.
