This season, Rita suspects Dexter has a drug problem, Doakes heads a murder investigation involving a military special-ops ranger, and a copycat killer emerges.
This series has always handled the duality of his [Dexter] character with masterful strokes. And it has done viewers a favor by quickly setting up the seasonlong scenario.
"It's Alive" turns the screws nicely on Dexter by hitting him [with] an identity crisis and the possibility of getting found out, and it's easy to see how that tension might sustain another brilliantly plotted season of television.
If there's a series on television right now that deserves to be mentioned as a successor to the ambition and dark brilliance of "The Sopranos," it's "Dexter."
