In a challenging and exciting atmosphere, this drama revolves around the struggles that a young girl, Vanessa Helsing, the relative of the great hunter of vampires in the world, Abraham Helsing, who shocked by the idea that Vampires have been invaded the world, casing damages and putting humanity's life in danger.
Van Helsing has undoubtedly established itself as an action/horror series that will include plenty of brutal fight sequences and bloodshed, which will certainly appeal to many of Syfy's regular viewers.
The performances of Overton and Scarfe are absolutely a good reason to tune in to Van Helsing. The two of them make each of their characters relatable, despite some superpowers and the insane situations they find themselves in.
It, too, gets off to a slow start, but Van Helsing picks up in the second episode. It is also super violent and super gory. If you like that sort of thing, you might want to give this a chance.
LaBute's concerns with manipulation, miscommunication and abject cruelty -- and maybe, just maybe, a modicum of hope -- are well applied to a story of full societal breakdown.
I'm hoping that changes in the future as the show begins to develop more of its own personality, but the tried-and-true technique will suffice for now.
