When Jimmy is relegated and given the duty of harbour patrol, he sees a dead person and is now making City Homicide to take up the duty for this investigation.
A richly textured universe unto itself, populated by detectives, drug dealers, longshoremen, politicians and lawyers who have motives so diverse, surprising and complicated, each scene seems to reveal a new layer of depth and complexity.
Although the big themes are in play, this isn't Clifford Odets making his characters into idea puppets. The people that Simon and his collaborator, former Baltimore cop Ed Burns, have imagined are utterly believable as human beings.
