Even as office Rick and the other survivors try to find a refuge, they are stripped of security and without a direction for the future, some of the group near their breaking point, some find themselves hardened and cold and some just try to grasp on to what little they have left.
This was a fantastic episode, and along with last season's "The Grove", another one of the best they've ever done. We viewers are waiting with baited breath to see what happens next.
Does The Walking Dead outdo itself with this season premiere? Of course, but "outdo" is what The Walking Dead does. This is not a series content to recycle visual ideas over and over even if it's a little less resistant to recycling thematic ones.
What ensues is a dizzying, turbocharged confrontation designed to keep your nerves in a vise (or your stomach in knots). Of course, it's all punctuated with the violent reverie of an all-out zombie splat-fest. So, basically, it's The Walking Dead on crank
