Scream Queens - Season 1, Episode 09: Ghost Stories
Trailer
The girls of Kappa Tau have moved on and now training at a hospital, but as strange thing begins to unfold they form an alliance with an intrepid detective.
Scream Queens delivered a great episode this week as it offered a deeper look into the Red Devil Killers' plot and lost a few characters along the way (maybe, if anyone actually ever dies on this show).
This has, of course, always been a meta show, for which the horror plot is a twisty necessity that's almost beside the point. It's much more interested in trying to capture the why-the-hell-not weirdness of iconic horror movies.
I had a couple moments of disenchantment with it, but since its cast has been pared down via murder and its central crime streamlined into a series of comedy set pieces, I have been genuinely looking forward to it. "Ghost Stories" was great.
Never have I ever wanted a TV novelization more than The Collected Ghost Stories of Denise Hemphill. Girl needs to put down those handcuffs and pick up a pen right this minute!
I swore I wasn't going to let the Ryan Murphy-ness of the show bother me... I wanted to enjoy this show for what it is - a fun, stupid romp - and just live with the rest.... I can't ignore the problems anymore.
Considering the two-hour premiere had such massive potential, and the show has steadily declined since then, in both ratings and sheer interest factor, "Scream Queens" may have worked better as either a movie or a limited series, with fewer episodes.
Aside from all those wonderful (and somewhat odd) ghost stories, the body count rose significantly in this week's episode of "Scream Queens" as the deaths of two main characters -- and that of a minor one -- shook Wallace University's campus.
Scream Queens doesn't have structure. It's a show gone rogue. "Ghost Stories" is kind of a mess. It's convoluted, not funny, and frankly doesn't even make sense. But that's okay! I'm going to honor the attempt.
