Orphan Black - Season 3, Episode 01: The Weight of This Combination
Trailer
An orphan gets caught up in a deadly conspiracy after learning that she is a clone. Just as Sarah and her clone sisters were beginning to piece together the complex conspiracy behind the shadowy Dyad Institute, the discovery of Project Castor – a top-secret military project producing highly-trained male clones – throws their lives back into turmoil.
While I expected and was excited for the show to keep up with its in-depth exploration of control and female agency, "The Weight Of This Combination" lays the foundation for this season to delve into a new theme: community.
Fans who were worried about the clone boys crowding in and drawing the focus away from Orphan Black's parsing of female experiences should rest assured that Sarah and her sisters still seem to be very much center stage.
No matter how bizarre and sometimes indecipherable Helena's story is, you just have to love the weird way her brain operates. Talking scorpions and baby shower hallucinations are on and the same inside her head.
Welcome back Orphan Black fans! It's time for season 3, which if the opening episode is any indication, is going to be chock-a-block with male soldier clones and if we're lucky, lots of our self-aware girl clones mimicking each other as much as possible.
Orphan Black's third season kicked off with a dense but entertaining premiere, dealing with the aftermath of Rachel's incapacitation at the end of last season.
While it does seem awfully naive that Sarah would let her guard down, even for a second, after Marian revealed she was holding a Castor clone captive, it was only a matter of time before the action picked up again.
Just when you thought it couldn't get any better than Sarah impersonating Alison in the rehabilitation center comes this week's big switcheroo: Sarah playing Rachel in order to convince Top Side the woman was still in charge.
