Midnight, Texas could have been called "True Blood: The Next Generation" or even more precisely "True Blood: The Low-Budget Network Reboot." Either way, it can't shake a fang at the original.
The NBC series, written and produced by Monica Owusu-Breen, doesn't bother to develop the characters. It's too busy chasing bizarre stories and trying for regularly timed jolts. They come like clockwork, undercutting their value.
It's been a long time in coming -- too long, perhaps. But your patronage is encouraged for a surprisingly assured supernatural saga with at least a little something for everyone, plus non-stop eye candy for one and all.
