In the new season, Paul is not found anywhere, but he appears at the right time to rearrange the events and attend the party. During a short period and later in the pub, he and Jim go to take care of some things while he meets the Big Three siblings during that time. Fiona's plan turns out to be a bad path for leaving with Gillian and her children.
The story flicks back and forth in time, sometimes giving the impression that we're trying to complete a double-sided jigsaw in our heads. But every piece fits, and each flip of the picture reveals something new.
The new series is a handsome and hook-rich thriller that seems carefully engineered to deliver a decent supply of twists, shocks and cliffhangers. But it bears only a passing resemblance to the original.
