Black Lightning - Season 1, Episode 07: Equinox: The Book of Fate
Trailer
This series sees the retired Black Lightning return to the hero life after a decade hanging up his costume and devoting himself to the life of an educator, as well as its effects on his family life.
We'll have to wait for next week to really digest all this, but I really love how this show just keeps upping the ante. Can't wait to see where we go from here.
This episode gets a high pass because in addition to furthering the dialogue, it leaves a bunch of cliff-hangers that will ignite passion for future viewership.
The reveal that Black Lightning has been put in the frame for the murder of Lady Eve was well-executed, but it made it even more glaringly obvious the quick kill was only thrown in to serve the episode-ending revelation.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the series, but it can't be a coincidence that at the end of episode 7, Anissa finally calls Grace back for a date.
With this revelation from Jefferson, coupled with a few thrilling action sequences and a brilliantly executed frame job from Tobias' sister Tori, suddenly Black Lightning is back on track.
Black Lightning is arguably one of the smartest, strongest comic book adaptations on television right now, but that's not to say the show hasn't been without its weaknesses.
I was unsure how I felt about Anissa's emerging powers as set against Jefferson's longstanding ones but the show smartly brought Anissa to the fore in a way that feels totally credible and organic.
