Cross is very good at nuancing the hidden depths of a character whose precise "problem" is purposefully kept elusive in Farahani and Jason O'Leary's intelligent script.
Alexander Alexandrov's grimy cinematography shows us the dirt and the grit we have come to associate with working class Americans going off the rails, and applies it to well cared for suburban homes and cityscapes usually pictured as glamorous.
There's a frankness to this picture that compensates for the overall slightness. It's the rare thriller that looks to combine "Five Easy Pieces" and "Taxi Driver."
