Thanks to the equal attention lavished on characters and physical comedy/carnage (courtesy of first-rate practical effects), this severed-tongue-in-cheek film's blunt-force trauma packs all the more punch.
Dead Shack doesn't get everything right, but it has a lot of heart (and lungs, and guts, and shrivelled livers), and with energy and wit in its favour as well, it can't go too far wrong.
with its adolescent kids going on an adventure together and stumbling into a genre scenario, this is the film Among the Living (2014) might have been had it come with a warm fuzzy Spielbergian heart.
