The film tells the story of a satirical reporter opposed to the Vietnam War. This satirical reporter has been sent to cover the conflict and is charged with tagging a bunch of green hats in the shadow of a long struggle. In this mission, the reporter will do two main things: observe a camp trying to take over by the enemy, and kidnap a North Vietnamese general.
When I first saw this at an NCO club during the Vietnam War, Army vets laughed and catcalled throughout the film because of the preposterous dialogue and action sequences.

John Wayne fans - particularly the fans of his war films - will like this movie for the chance to see him mix it up with heavy artillery.
"The Green Berets" simply will not do as a film about the war in Vietnam. It is offensive not only to those who oppose American policy but even to those who support it.
