David Roberts is a young boy who is obsessed with football, particulary his favorite team, Bromley FC. Although it's a local team that doesn't participate in the first league, he loves it so much. But this love may affect badly on his relationship with his girlfriend. At some point, he has to choose one of them.
It's very light and all a bit TV, with a seemingly interminable second act. Yet the characters are so affectionately drawn and so sweetly played that you forgive the conspicuous lapses.
If you do feel you need a football fix in what for some of us is a brief, blessed respite before the World Cup, I recommend it for its warmth and knockabout energy - and a great soundtrack.
Steve Kelly's film is burdened with weak comic shenanigans and an overly sentimental twist, but when it switches to quiet pathos in its hero's moments of dejection, it's quite sweet.
