Driving by his deep love and infatuation with a young beautiful ballet dancer Alicia, who after making an accident, enters in a coma, Benigno, a young ambitious male nurse works at a special clinic, where he meets Marco, an ambitious journalist whom he befriends as Marco's girlfriend also enters in a coma, so they both cooperate, in order to help their lovers.
Almodovar uses the characters' unlikely predicaments to show how we define ourselves by narration, but his story is so overdetermined that ultimately the two men seem as constrained as their brain-dead sweethearts.
