In this movie, Prince Colwene inherited a kingdom under siege by the evil monster who is destroying everything. There is a group of foreign invaders who reached their original planet in that period, as Colwin tries to rid the monster's land, but he has to save his bride from the clutches of the dangerous monster.
Despite the heaps of '80s hair and the special-effect sparks added to the clanking of swords, this is richer stuff than anything by Lucas before it, or Peter Jackson after it.
