A group of horrific events occur in a poor village but the bodies did not stand here but the kidnapping was soon followed by the horrific murder of another lady, Polly, and it becomes clear that he is being tracked, one by one. Even the villain is killed by standards, but these crimes capture the attention of Inspector Fred Aberlaine, a brilliant and troubled man whose police career is often supported by his psychic abilities. Abberline becomes deeply involved in the case, which takes a personal meaning to him when he and Mary start falling in love.
The problem with this film is that Jack the Ripper takes a backseat to the dull and terrible romance between Depp's policeman character and Heather Graham's prostitute character.
Anyone expecting the combo of Allen and Albert Hughes and the famed Victorian serial-killer to result in a gritty, stygian, skin-crawling horror movie will be severely disappointed
