Weird Loners is a comedy about the relationship foibles of four different thirtysomethings, who are unexpectedly thrust into one another';;s lives, forming unlikely bonds in a Queens, NY, townhouse.
Unlike Fox's The Last Man On Earth, there's no thrill of discovery here. Weird Loners instead re-shuffles the aimless singles deck before falling well short of coming up aces.
Weird Loners is not so fresh as its title might presume. Its protagonists are more familiar than strange, and their stories are clichéd, beginning with the premise that these lovable misfits become "friends".
The show feels like bullying. If Eric wants to make sock puppets and be weird, he's not hurting anyone! Just let him! The other characters don't even seem to mind; it's the show that's holding him up for cruel ridicule. No, thank you.
