After the stealing of the time machine, Wyatt, Lucy and Rufus have started to plan how to get it back. And now they continue their time journey for a second season. But this time with the help of their former enemy Garcia Flynn, as they unite to chase the Mothership to the Salem Witch Trials.
The show appears to have kept the ingredients that work, such as the chemistry between characters and the historical hijinx, and switched up the elements that needed tweaking.
While Season 1 was all about establishing our heroes, it appears that the big initiative in Season 2 was to work on spicing up the villains and playing up their own difficulties with messing with time.
If audiences are willing to come aboard the lifeboat one more time, we could be looking at a real turnaround for Timeless' success. A turnaround that is sure to please all parties involved.
It's not just back. It's here with more spirit and energy and focus, displaying a willingness to reset the status quo without leaving the events of the first season in the dust.
So far, the show still has plenty of the B-movie gunfights and ridiculous anachronisms which characterized its initial appeal. Let's just hope the mounting conspiracies and exhausting twists don't dilute the retro-escapist vibe.
Overall, the series has returned with a much better understanding of where its strengths and weaknesses are, and how to bring out the former as much as possible.
