A prominent French politician is found dead on the border between the U.K. and France, and two agents have to work together on behalf of their respective countries to find the murderer.
The ability to juxtapose the dualities of countries and countrymen, people divided by politics and history who have evolved to have different cultures and mannerisms, remains fascinating to watch.
Sure its backdrop of grey, English Channel towns, with their 1970s architecture and prolific seagulls, is hardly uplifting, but the characters feel believable with real depths and conflicts.
It stands on its own on the strength of its cast and direction, but more importantly, has been adapted in such a way that it casts old European enmities in a new light.
This could be a great balm for those still missing The Bridge, but only if the rapport between the two detectives is as warm and humorous as the one Bachir and Kruger developed.
