This documentary series embodies the full story of the film industry from its beginnings until now. The series shows the full impact of those films made by the most famous stars and the impact of those films on real generations around the world. The series begins with a realistic look for the 1980s and explores The Empire Strikes Back and E.T.
If the goal of this six-part series is to stimulate fond memories of moviegoing from years gone by, in a roughly decade-by-decade approach, it has already worked its magic on me.
It delivers old information with some fresh perspective, and it really is nice to see this particular producing team tackle a subject that was so egregiously passed over during the last five years.
Film buffs won't learn anything new by going to "The Movies," but it's sort of remarkable how the producers squeeze in so many clips during the two-hour premiere on the '80s, with time left over for commentary from marquee names.
