This premise offers plenty of promising ideas about workplace sexism and news media in 2019, but the end result is pretty dull.
[Jennifer Aniston] acquits herself very nicely in this show, particularly as her character and acting ability are challenged by Tony and Oscar-winning scene partners in Billy Crudup and Reese Witherspoon, who both turn in really lived in performances.
The Morning Show charges smack bang into MeToo, as well as showing women competing with women in the workplace and even, in one succulent moment, the carnage that big tech is reaping on traditional television.
So it's not surprising The Morning Show is at its most engaging when [Aniston is] front and centre. If only the slightly rickety drama constructed around her had a clearer idea what it wants to be and for whom it is intended.
It's imperfect but engaging, with its material elevated by a great cast. Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell could have played it safe, instead they let loose with roles that will feel all too plausible.
