A famous action hero/martial arts star comes out of retirement to assume an alter ego as undercover private contractor named Jean-Claude Johnson to travel the globe and battle the real life forces of evil.
The revelation of an older, slower, less agile Van Damme helps ground the series, even as it ventures into the sort of outlandishness that comprised the plots of the movies he once headlined.
Are we expected to watch a whole season of episodes featuring Van Damme leaving a movie set to go and fight crime while cracking self-deprecating jokes? I'm not much interested in that.
JC is a likeable hero to root for who, despite his cocky exterior, is surprisingly happy to mock his own career in the name of comedy. Ironically, a show about being a washed-up actor could well reignite the popularity of its real-life star.
