This series explores the serious events faced by a gang member who is capable of criminal missions anywhere. At that time, the young man must balance his or her upbringing obligations with his criminal family against the growing sense of loyalty to his new family to which he belongs.
A small excess of treacle can't do much to undermine a drama that offers, among its attributes, as rich a focus as this one does on images and other down-to-earth details of maiming, bloodletting and their consequent effects.
Gang Related... offers up what feels like the dregs from the same pan in which many, many cop show predecessors, both better and worse, have been cooked up, including more intense series like The Shield or The Wire.
