Struggling against survival, this drama series, follows a gathering of European outcasts, who move from Europe to New France, who battle against endurance, as they face numerous difficulties in their method of frontier misuse and torment.
The gorgeously produced series is nevertheless sufficiently muddy, bare, and claustrophobic in its depiction of frontier life along a wild, untamed landscape. It's also, rightfully, quite spooky.
Although the story deals with murder, betrayal, and conspiracy, it feels limited and somewhat inconsequential, the opposite of the grand scope of Proulx's novel.
