The historical events in this film follow Edward Creighton, who decides to leave the criminal and all bad ways with gang and works with Western Union, so he contributes significantly in completing the first transcontinental telegraph line in 1861, but some conflicts arise between the team, who works in stringing the wires and the Native American, who need to run the lines through their land.
Things pick up in the dark final third; there's a famous -- very Langian -- scene in which Scott, tied up with rope, escapes by holding his bonds over a real fire.
