It is the story of the American man Mark Thackeray (Sydney Poitiers) who recently received his engineering degree. Although this man succeeded, but found no job, he decided to take up a job as a teacher, only to confront a group of villains. Mark faces more rotting undisciplined working-class characters.
Incessant Cockney street market vignettes and shots of London buses seem to suggest that it was all primarily intended for American consumption anyway.
The film has gone in and out of fashion, but it's old enough now to return to it with a clear eye, and see the strength beneath the kooky sentimentality.
Generally effective comedy drama with standout performances.

Sentimental reflections on an inspirational teacher are often the makings of weak dishwater films, but in James Clavell's To Sir, with Love, a strong cast and an unforgettable title song make this an undeniable classic.
One factor in the picture's popularity and its sustaining charm is the tuneful title song, which was a top hit for Lulu and is heard throughout the film.
