Through a chain of dramatic and exciting events, this film takes after a girl named Juliet, who is in a complicated and troubled relationship with her longtime boyfriend Duncan and her intractable romance across the Atlantic. Duncan's friend Juliet is a fan of Tucker Crow and when the 25-year history of the 25-year-old Tucker record is released, everything changes for Juliet and perhaps Duncan.
Sign me up in the Rose Byrne fan club! The charming actress who we've come to love in various comedies adds the right amount of pizzazz to elevate the new comedy from director Jesse Peretz based on Nick Hornby's 2009 novel.
You have to swallow a lot to buy into "Juliet, Naked" - including the preposterous notion that anyone could ignore Rose Byrne - but the direction and the playing turn it into comfort food.
The film works as a romantic comedy because it makes its characters vulnerable. The vivid description adds psychological and emotional facets that humanizes them and makes them endearing. [Full Review in Spanish]
An old-fashioned romantic comedy with the adorable Kid, judgy friend, bar dancing, will-he-won't-she tropes and it does feel good. It's a breath of fresh air in the extremely dark, twitchy unhappy universe of movies these days.
The main strength of Juliet, Naked is its cast. All three principal actors are perfect, with O'Dowd adding his particular comic touch. More important, each character is equally likeable despite flaws that seem as inherent as they feel natural.
