A realistic look at the suffering of this Canadian boy named Saul Indian Horse. He moved with his family to the city of Ojibwai, where he joined a notorious Catholic school. That school prevented him from speaking freely in his own language or talking about his original heritage. He got a lot of verbal and physical abuse but broke all those rules where he was practicing all kinds of entertainment and games, especially the hockey game.
... for the most part the cast fails to support the weighty material. Still, the essence and importance of [Richard] Wagamese's book - both the brutality and the beauty - shines through, more vital than ever.
