The story is about the girl named Regina Louise, a black girl placed in a house for her upbringing, where she is sympathized with that woman named Jeanne Kerr, a white woman. Things change exactly when the manager, a black woman, changes things in the belief that the black child can not be raised by a white woman. Things seem to have changed completely as Reggina is sent to a private institution and all Jane's attempts to communicate with that girl are prevented. When Regina reaches the age of majority, the organization releases her. Regina remains looking for the woman she once had.
