The movie chronicles the rise and moral destruction of genteel African American crime lord Ellsworth 'Bumpy' Johnson, the former king of the 1930's Harlem numbers racket and their fights with Dutch Schultz who is trying to horn in on their numbers racket.
It contains nothing of any lingering interest. On the other hand, Laurence Fishburne may be the only man on the planet who makes that mustache look good.

This slow-going, talky film is in a constant struggle to hold the audience's interest.
