Set in the middle of Nowheresville, the movie centers on 16-year-old Mike, suffering from a fatal brain tumor, reconsiders his struggles when he meets the love of his life, without even knowing what love is.
Too obvious in its quest for quirkiness, director Florian Cossen's German-Canadian indie about a suicidal 16-year-old named Mike Tyson (Alex Ozerov) has some original moments, but not enough of them to make Coconut Hero stand out.
Coconut Hero turns into a film about an oddball kid relieved to find out he has a brain tumour, a new escape hatch from his small Canadian town seemingly populated by Wes Anderson's bastard children.
